Have you ever thought about how many processes children activate while cooking? Attention, memory, coordination, concentration, creativity. Cooking stimulates our children in many ways, it keep them busy and it improves their mood. You give them a chance to choose what to prepare and you will see something good. When my son cooks he is always very curious and concentrated. I realized that cooking can become an opportunity to stimulate the child’s development and his autonomy: learning to make food , to recognize healthy foods, and organize the time they have available are important moments in growing up , it takes very little to make these moments enjoyable and interesting. Children are able of doing and if they make mistakes they can try again… In the kitchen everything can be changed: you can change the ingredients of a recipe it doesn’t matter , kids experiment and it’s normal that repeating more times the same dish the result is never the same. Here there are my son’s baked DONUTS. My little chef is always ready to experiment. When cooking is done there is the satisfaction for the result: the surprise to realize that he can do it!
Ingredients: (about 10 donuts)
10 g of yeast
175 ml of warm milk
30 ml of lukewarm water
40 g of butter
45 g of sugar
1 egg
370 g of plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
(oil for frying)
Ingredients for the icing:
75 g of butter
220 g of icing sugar
1 tsp of vanilla
80 ml of hot water
To cover with chocolate:
100 g of dark chocolate
Preparation:
In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water, add the butter, milk, egg, sugar and salt. Mix the ingredients with a mixer until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous. Add the flour using your hands.
Leave the dough covered with a kitchen towel until the dough has doubled in size. Roll out the dough on a pastry sheet in a 2 cm thickness and cut out the donuts. (If you don’t have a formina to donuts you can use a glass and the cork of a bottle of water 1.5l per fare il buco al centro). Place the donuts on a greased baking sheet, cover with kitchen towel and let rise for 30-40 minutes.
Meanwhile prepare the frosting:
in a bowl mix the butter with the sugar then add the vanilla and hot water and whisk until mixture is smooth and uniform. For the chocolate icing, melt the chocolate and incorporate it in the previously prepared.
If you prefer to fry them, we wanted to try baking.
Preheat the oven to 180 C and cook the donuts until risen and golden brown (about 15-20 min.)
When the donuts are cool dip one side into the icing and let them rest until the icing becomes solid. Sorry there are not photo because when we put icing I forgot to take a pictures 🙂
