(english) Chop food for stress relief

After a stressful day at the office you might be tempted to order take away or heat up frozen food. Your day has been a long heavy day, and you want a  ready hot meal without waiting to cook. Actually preparing our own dinner gives us the possibility to reduce stress levels, to share a moment with the family and to know what we are eating. I know, it takes patience, but preparing the ingredients,  cutting, chopping, slicing  are the ideal activities for relieve your stress. Let yourself be carried by these simple acts and your mood will change totally. Cooking is very relaxing if you don’t focus too much on the final result, or the recipe. Just choose simple dishes, or let be inspired by what you have in your food shelves .

I know that sometimes it can be a bit daunting but if you change your way of thinking about cooking you will feel the many benefits that you can obtain. Confucio said: “wherever you go go with all your heart”, well …. whatever you do do it with all your heart. Over the years I have realized  that I love cooking and I think  that it can be therapeutic too. When I’m particularly tired or restless or thoughtfully I cook and I concentrate in these simple acts, on flavors and fragrances and I forget concerns, problems or sadness. Cooking for wellness of the Mind, Body, and Spirit …… and a nervous system always balanced.

It’s not coincidence that I have chose the VEGETABLE SOUP. It’s a very healthy and nutritious dish, made with simple ingredients, it’s easy to prepare but requires patience.  It’s a long preparation because you have to cut all the vegetables. You’ll allow yourself to lower your tension by slicing, dicing, chopping. This is the ideal preparation when you are angry, or something  went wrong, when you are thoughtful or you need to take a break: your mood will change.

Ingredients (serving 4-6)

1 onion
2 carrot
2 medium-sized zucchini
1 large potato
200 g boiled beans
1/4 of cabbage
handful chopped celery and parsley
2 or 3 tablespoons of diced tomatoes
50 g diced bacon

Chop onion, dice all vegetable: potatoes, carrots, zucchini and cabbage. In saucepan put onion, celery and parsley with bacon and saute over   low heat.  Add all vegetables (carrots, potatoes, zucchini, cabbage, beans) plus 2 tbsp tomato, stirring. Add to 1.5 liters  of hot water, and cook over low heat for about 50 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked.

When it cooked, add a few tablespoons of extravirgen olive oil and serve it with a Parmesan cheese.
If you want you can add  pasta or rice and you have a complete meal.
A few tips: You can substitute or add vegetables according  the season and what you have available. You can remove the bacon if you are a vegetarian or you are concerned about calories.  You can also use the pressure cooker, ( same procedure and same ingredients), but you can cook it in half  time.

You are right about relieving stress! It seems that preparing food is a way to confirm our way of life, our family and home. Food is all about feeling safe in a supportive environment! Love your posts!!!

Totally agree with your post. I don’t have the time to cook after work on weekdays but will certainly relieve my stress that were accumulated during the week and balance my mood to cook on weekends. Thanks for sharing.
